Yogyakarta. The DIY Provincial Government (Pemprov) has again achieved first place in the Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI).
This achievement is claimed as a success in maintaining and strengthening a participatory, inclusive, and law-based democratic climate.
” The DIY Provincial Government received a score of 89.25,” said the Head of the DIY National Unity and Politics Agency (Kesbangpol) Lilik Andi Aryanto when confirmed, Friday (26/9/2025).
Lilik, as he is familiarly known, was present in person representing the DIY Provincial Government to receive the award at the 2024 IDI National Coordination Meeting held by the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam) on Thursday (25/9/2025).
According to him, this achievement is a challenge to maintain consistency and quality.
“This year, Yogyakarta once again ranked first in the Indonesian Digital Index (IDI) nationally. The Yogyakarta IDI reached 89.25, a 5.37-point increase from the previous year’s score of 83.88,” he explained.
He hopes that these achievements will not be limited to numbers alone, but also reflect the practice of a vibrant democracy that favors the people and aligns with local values and the cultural wisdom of Yogyakarta.
According to him, the increase in the DIY IDI cannot be separated from the practice of democracy that has grown in line with the culture of the Yogyakarta community.
“Civil liberties have been guaranteed through freedom of expression, the role of the media, and open dialogue for all levels of society to express constructive criticism. This is the strength of democracy in Yogyakarta,” Lilik added.
The IDI assessment process is measured by photographing real events that can be observed related to democratic practices both procedurally and substantively.
In addition, the presence of the IDI is important to be a comparison for the assessment of democracy that is also widely carried out by international survey institutions which of course have different benchmarks from the culture and character of democracy in Indonesia.
There are three assessment aspects: freedom, equality, and the capacity of democratic institutions. IDI scores range from 0 to 100, with categories being low (0-60), medium (60-80), and high (80-100).
