Malang. Music concerts in Indonesia are not just an event to listen to songs live. Jakpat’s 2025 Music Concert Trends & Fan Behavior survey data, which involved 1,658 respondents, shows that concert attendance has far more complex and multi-layered reasons.
There is a combination of emotional, social, and personal factors that drive people to be willing to fight for tickets and spend large sums of money for a night full of music.
- Need Entertainment (52 Percent)
More than half of respondents confirmed that concerts are one of the most effective forms of entertainment. Live music , lighting, and crowd energy are a complete package to relieve boredom caused by routine. This entertainment is not just listening to songs, but also a multisensory experience that can rarely be replaced. - Relieves Stress (46 Percent)
For many people, concerts are a form of “therapy.” Loud music, a singing crowd, and an intense atmosphere are believed to reduce psychological stress. Instead of a long vacation, one night of concerts is enough to be considered a powerful stress reliever. - Enjoying the Concert Vibe (39 Percent)
There is a unique energy that can only be felt during a concert. The vibe from the stage, the cheers of the audience, and the adrenaline rush of singing your favorite songs with thousands of people make a concert a collective experience unlike simply listening to a recording. - Seeing a Singer Live (37 Percent)
The musician’s lifelike visualization is a huge draw. Meeting an idol on stage, even from a distance, provides an authentic experience that no digital screen can match. It’s a moment where the distance between artist and fan feels closer. - Invited by Friends or Other People (26 Percent)
Concerts also have a social dimension. Many respondents said they attended concerts because of invitations from friends, partners, or community groups. This togetherness factor strengthens social bonds while adding personal meaning to the concert experience. - Supporting Favorite Musicians (21 Percent)
Some people feel that attending concerts is a form of loyalty. Buying a ticket is considered the same as giving real support to the career of the musician they admire. Concerts are a means to show emotional attachment to the idol’s work. - Interaction with Favorite Musicians (14 Percent)
Even though the chances are small, there is an expectation from fans to be able to feel a moment of interaction such as just eye contact , waving, or even getting a direct greeting from the musicians on stage. This adds a personal dimension that makes concerts so special. - Haven’t been to a concert in a long time (12 percent)
There’s also a nostalgic drive. Respondents who feel they haven’t been to a concert in a while choose to attend again to relive old memories and relive the euphoria they may have lost. - Existing/Flexing on Social Media (8 Percent)
The final, somewhat unique reason is the need for existence. Some fans admit to attending concerts for Instagram Story content or simply for social media flexing. Concerts, in this case, are not only for personal consumption but also a “stage” to show off lifestyle.
From the nine reasons above, it is clear that music concerts in Indonesia occupy a strategic position as a space for entertainment, stress relief, social arena, and a form of fan support for musicians.
Interestingly, personal reasons such as nostalgia or digital existence also play a role, although to a lesser extent.
This means that a concert is not just an activity of watching music, but a collective experience that touches on the psychological, social, and cultural aspects of society.
