The Mayor of Yogyakarta Inaugurates the SKH Kedaulatan Rakyat Museum

Sleman. The Kedaulatan Rakyat (KR) Daily Newspaper (SKH) celebrated its 80th anniversary on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Kedaulatan Rakyat Printing Office. Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo and Deputy Mayor Wawan Harmawan attended the event.

The momentum of the 80th anniversary commemoration felt special because it also included the inauguration of the Kedaulatan Rakyat Newspaper Museum by the Mayor of Yogyakarta.

Mayor Hasto Wardoyo expressed his appreciation for Kedaulatan Rakyat’s long-standing presence over eight decades. He stated that KR’s existence is not merely an information medium but also plays a vital role in building the nation’s civilization.

“Kedaulatan Rakyat is a daily newspaper that consistently prioritizes three main pillars: information, education, and a consistent upholding of ideology. I hope KR can continue to be a partner to the government and support development programs that improve the welfare of the community,” said Hasto.

Hasto added that, amidst the current surge of digital media and information pragmatism, Kedaulatan Rakyat remains consistent in upholding its ideological values. He believes the newly inaugurated newspaper museum can serve as a reflection for media in the modern era.

“This museum is not just a place to store archives, but also a reminder for today’s media to avoid being trapped by pragmatism. Media should maintain values of struggle, one of which is an ideology that sides with the people,” he explained.

“The 80th anniversary of Kedaulatan Rakyat (People’s Sovereignty) is not only a moment to celebrate its anniversary, but also a sign of our commitment to continue transforming and contributing to overseeing the governance process and voicing the aspirations of the people,” he said.
