Strengthening Political Education Through Good Governance

Palangka Raya. Arbert Tombak, the Acting Regional Secretary of Palangka Raya, has emphasized the crucial role of good governance in shaping political education programs. Speaking at a recent public forum, Tombak highlighted that instilling ethical standards and governance values is fundamental to creating responsible, informed citizens.

According to Tombak, political education should go beyond teaching the mechanics of voting or political participation. “It is not enough for citizens to know how to participate in elections,” he explained. “Political education must cultivate integrity, transparency, accountability, and a sense of public responsibility as its core principles.”

Good governance, Tombak explained, ensures that public institutions operate efficiently, transparently, and in the best interest of society. Embedding these principles in political education equips citizens with the knowledge and ethical framework to demand accountability and actively engage in public life.

Tombak also pointed out that political education should encourage individuals to view public service as a collective responsibility rather than just an administrative task. By fostering awareness of ethical governance at the grassroots level, communities are better prepared to uphold clean, effective institutions and resist corruption.

He urged collaboration between government agencies, educational institutions, and civil society organizations to design political education programs rooted in good governance. Such programs, Tombak noted, would help cultivate a new generation of leaders who prioritize ethical responsibility alongside political power.

The integration of good governance principles into political education, he emphasized, is vital for nurturing a political culture that values integrity, transparency, and accountability. “When citizens understand the true meaning of ethical governance, they are empowered to make informed decisions and contribute positively to society,” Tombak concluded.

This approach aligns with global standards of political education, which advocate for not only knowledge acquisition but also the cultivation of civic virtues and responsible leadership. By prioritizing good governance in educational initiatives, Palangka Raya aims to foster a generation of citizens capable of sustaining democratic values and promoting social welfare.
