Prospective Garuda School students are selected nationwide

Tanjung Selor. The Director General of Science and Technology, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) Ahmad Najib Burhani said students who will study at Garuda School in North Kalimantan will be selected nationwide.

“Students from here (North Kalimantan) will be prioritized, but the concept is an archipelago. Students from various provinces in Indonesia will be selected nationwide and placed here, with quotas available from local areas and provinces,” said Ahmad Najib in Tanjung Selor on Wednesday.

However, he said, it still combines elements from various regions, provinces and ethnic groups in Indonesia.

Kaltara is one of the four regions where Garuda Schools will be built this year, while the other three regions are first Soe City, South Central Timor, East Nusa Tenggara, second East Belitung, Bangka Belitung and third South Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi.

Construction of the School began this year and was completed in June 2026 to kick off the new subjects in the new school.

He said, the design of the school building, the concept is similar but local wealth is adopted, the building and land contour at the Garuda School construction site will be adjusted.

“But the size and scale, the forms of the laboratories are all the same, following international standards,” he said.

In academic standard, we use a national curriculum with global enrichment, including character building to build leaders, both national leaders and leaders in science.

“So we are combining various elements that we hope will become the generation that will lead the nation in the future,” he said.

In North Kalimantan, the name of Garuda School is likely to be Garuda Superior School 4. With an annual quota of 160 students with the number of students per school being around 400 students.

“However, various regions in Indonesia and local communities receive their share,” he said.
