Yogyakarta. The Pandansimo Bridge which stretches across the Southern Cross Road (JJLS) officially opened for traffic trials starting Monday (29/9) at 09.00 WIB. The 2,300-meter-long bridge has become a new icon of the southern coast of Java and is the longest bridge in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), connecting Bantul Regency with Kulon Progo Regency. This trial was welcomed by the Bantul Regency Transportation Agency (Dishub), which hopes that the opening of the bridge will smooth traffic flow on the southern route.
“On behalf of the Bantul Transportation Agency, we welcome the initial opening of this trial. We hope it will have an impact on smooth traffic flow,” said the Head of the Bantul Transportation Agency, Singgih Riyadi, Monday (29/9). The Pandansimo Bridge is not only the longest in DIY, but also holds a MURI Record as the longest bridge in Indonesia that uses a corrugated steel plate system and lightweight foam mortar embankment. Equipped with Lead Rubber Bearing earthquake damping technology, this bridge is a symbol of the nation’s innovation in modern infrastructure development.
According to Singgih, the operation of this bridge has long been awaited by the public and is expected to become a vital alternative route, especially during holiday seasons such as New Year and Eid. While welcoming this trial, the Bantul Regency Government hopes that the central government will immediately provide supporting facilities along the JJLS.
“Because street lighting there is still very minimal, road markings are still very lacking, so we ask the central government to immediately complete this,” said Singgih.
Furthermore, he hopes that after the Pandansimo Bridge, Kelok 23, which connects Bantul and Gunungkidul, can also be opened soon. “So, the road from Kulon Progo, Bantul, Gunungkidul, and all the way to East Java will be seamless. This will definitely have a tremendous impact on both traffic flow and economic growth,” he concluded.
