Indonesia Rises Path to Indonesia Emas 2045

Education. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) attended the launch of the book Indonesia Naik Kelas, which presents strategic ideas for accelerating Indonesia’s economic transformation on the road to “Indonesia Emas 2045.”

The event brought together policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss how Indonesia can strengthen its development trajectory through innovation and value-added industries.

The book highlights downstreaming and industrialization as essential strategies for inclusive economic growth. It argues that Indonesia must maximize its natural resources, expand value-chain capacity, and build closer collaboration between universities and industry to increase national competitiveness. These steps are considered crucial for achieving a high-income, equitable society by 2045.

During the event, Mendiktisaintek emphasized the critical role of higher education in supplying skilled talent and research breakthroughs. The ministry reiterated that universities must not only produce graduates but also generate long-lasting social and economic impact. This includes strengthening applied research, developing innovation ecosystems, and ensuring that academic findings translate into real-world solutions for industry and society.

Speakers also stressed the importance of closer cooperation between academia, government, and the private sector. They encouraged universities to co-design research agendas with industry, expand internships, improve technology transfer, and support the creation of regional growth hubs. This model is expected to help Indonesia reduce reliance on raw material exports and build stronger domestic value chains.

The discussion also touched on several policy priorities, such as creating incentives for downstream industries, improving vocational and technical education, and simplifying regulations to attract investment in strategic sectors. Stakeholders emphasized that economic transformation should benefit not only large industries but also small and medium enterprises to ensure inclusive development.

For higher education, the direction is clear: universities must expand their impact beyond campus boundaries. Mendiktisaintek’s programs encourage applied research, entrepreneurial initiatives, and practical industry collaboration. These initiatives are expected to accelerate innovation, enhance workforce readiness, and support Indonesia’s journey toward becoming a high-income nation by 2045.
