Yogyakarta. Indonesian mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah recorded a resounding victory in the round of 16 of the 2025 Korea Open, Thursday (25/9), after defeating the sixth-superior pair from Japan, Hiroki Midorikawa/Natsu Saito, with a convincing score of 21-19, 21-14.
Competing at Sewon Gymnasium, Amri/Nita played aggressively from the start of the first game, using a strategy of speeding up the tempo of the game, which proved effective in breaking down the Japanese pair’s defense.
“Thank God, we were able to win and avenge our previous defeat. We deliberately increased the tempo because we didn’t want to lose speed. It was tiring, but it was a risk we had to take,” said Amri after the match.
This victory felt special, considering their opponents were a top 10 pair in the world and had already collected Super 500 tournament titles. This victory was not only a ticket to the quarterfinals, but also a major boost to their competitive mentality.
“Beating top pairs like them certainly boosts our confidence. Hopefully, from here on out, we can continue to play with ease and without any pressure,” added Amri.
Meanwhile, Nita admitted that she lost focus at the end of the first game, but support from her partner and coach helped her control her emotions.
“When I was ahead in the first game, I was in a rush, trying to finish it quickly. But that just gave my opponent an opening. Luckily, Amri and the coach kept reminding me to stay calm and patient,” Nita said.
With this victory, Amri/Nita have a great opportunity to advance further in the tournament. If they maintain this impressive performance, it’s not impossible that they could become dark horses, surprising many of their opponents.
