Jakarta. Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek), Fauzan explained the differences between the Citizen School (Sekolah Rakyat / SR) and the Garuda School (Sekolah Garuda / SG), which are both central government programs.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science in Soe, South Central Timor Regency (TTS), East Nusa Tenggara Province, Wednesday (8/10/2025) while attending the introduction of the Garuda School Excellence which will be built next November.
Fauzan explained that Garuda School’s passion is for 3T children who have superior competencies, while the Citizen School’s passion is to provide education to underprivileged children in general.
That is why junior high school students or equivalent who want to enter Garuda High School are required to pass a strict selection process.
“We hope that educational institutions, especially junior high schools, can make the most of this opportunity,” he said.
Junior high schools, he said, must truly prepare their students to be able to enter Garuda School, which will begin accepting students in June 2026.
Previously, the government, through the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), had prepared four new Garuda Schools, which were targeted for completion and operation in the 2026/2027 academic year.
This school, with its enhanced pre-university curriculum, is a boarding school equivalent to a high school, emphasizing a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-based learning approach.
