Cirebon. A meteor fell in Cirebon for a short time on Sunday night (October 5th). Here’s a chronology of the moments leading up to the meteor’s fall.
Thomas Djamaluddin, a senior research expert at the National Research and Innovation Agency ( BRIN ) Space Research Center , discussed the sequence of natural events in detail. In an explanation quoted by detikINET, he stated that the events occurred between approximately 6:30 and 6:35 p.m. WIB.
The chronology is as follows:
- At around 18:30 WIB, there was a loud bang heard around Kuningan Regency and Cirebon Regency.
- At 18:35 WIB, netizens began to see an object like a meteor or fireball at that time.
- At 18:39:12 WIB, there was data from BMKG Cirebon (ACJM) indicating a vibration with an azimuth of 221.
“I concluded that it was a fairly large meteor that crossed into the Kuningan – Cirebon Regency area from the southwest at around 6:35-6:39 p.m. WIB,” said Thomas.
Upon entering the lower atmosphere, the meteor generated a shockwave, resulting in a booming sound, detected by the Cirebon Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at 6:39:12 p.m. WIB.
“The meteor fell in the Java Sea,” concluded Thomas.
Hopefully everyone is safe there.
