Jakarta World Cinema 2025 Officially Opens, with 100 Films Ready for Screening

Jakarta. The 2025 Jakarta World Cinema (JWC) film festival has officially opened. Around 100 films from various countries will be available to watch.
The opening of JWC was held at CGV Grand Indonesia on Saturday evening (September 27th). The event was attended by several renowned Indonesian actors, actresses, and directors, including Faradina Mufti, Asmara Abigail, Ifa Isfansyah, Joko Anwar, and Razka Robby Ertanto.

In addition to local filmmakers, JWC also attracted international filmmakers. One such person was Thai director Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit, who attended to represent his film, “Human Resource.” Tickets for this film consistently sold out at JWC 2025.

The director, who is also known for the film Happy Old Year (2019), also admitted that he was jealous of JWC’s presence.

“JWC is very interesting, and I’m jealous, because it presents the best films from the world’s best film festivals. In my own country, it’s hard to find a festival like this,” he said.

Meanwhile, Festival Director Shandy Gasella said there are around 100 films from various countries. The opening film is the highly anticipated “Sentimental Value” by director Joachim Trier.

“Yes, there are around 100 films available to watch during JWC 2025. This number is more than last year, and the hope is of course to create a cinema culture and a cinephile culture here,” he said.
The Jakarta World Cinema Festival 2025 will run until October 4, 2025, presenting dozens of selected international films previously screened at prestigious festivals worldwide. JWC serves not only as a space for global film appreciation but also as a bridge to strengthen ties between Indonesian cinema and the international community.

In addition to offline screenings at CGV Grand Indonesia, this festival can also be watched online at KlikFilm from September 4 to October 4, 2025, so that film lovers from various regions can still enjoy a line-up of top films.
