Hasto: Infant Mortality Rate in Yogyakarta City Has Decreased Significantly

Hasto Infant Mortality Rate in Yogyakarta City Has Decreased Significantly

Yogyakarta. The Jogja City Health Office (Dinkes) noted a decline in infant mortality rates until entering the third quarter of 2025. The Jogja City Government hopes that by the end of the year this year’s infant mortality rate will be lower than last year.

The Yogyakarta City Health Office recorded 21 infant mortality cases in 2024. Meanwhile, the infant mortality rate until August 2025 reached 6 cases.

Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo believes the decline in infant mortality rates demonstrates the continued improvement in maternal and child health services in the city. He believes that healthcare services from early pregnancy through delivery are essential to ensure healthy babies are born.

“The infant mortality rate has decreased significantly, which means the quality of maternal and child health services in the city of Yogyakarta is improving,” he said, Sunday (28/9/2020).

He added that the decline in infant mortality rates also aligns with the decline in pregnancy rates in Yogyakarta. In 2024, the number of pregnancies reached 2,139, while by August 2025, the number had reached 1,311.

Furthermore, he noted that the birth rate in Yogyakarta has also decreased compared to last year. In 2024, the number of births reached 2,137, while in August 2025, it reached 1,265.

In addition, according to him, the decline in pregnancy and birth rates also shows that the Family Planning (KB) program in the city of Yogyakarta has been widely accessed by the public.

“The decline in pregnancy and birth rates shows that family planning outreach has succeeded in increasing public awareness.

The Yogyakarta City Health Office recorded that the number of family planning participants in the city had reached tens of thousands. In 2024, the number reached 23,782, and by August 2025, the number had reached 22,187.

According to him, the increasing number of KB participants shows that Yogyakarta City residents are increasingly concerned about family planning.

“With four months remaining in the year, we are optimistic that the number of KB participants in 2025 will surpass that of the previous year,” he said.
