Yogyakarta: A student at the Yogyakarta Multi Media College (MMTC), Adhistya Sedana, or Adhis as he is familiarly known, has captured the public’s attention through his final project animation work that highlights the beauty and wisdom of Balinese culture. The work is entitled ‘Ikan Mas Tur Dedari’.
This animation tells the story of a traditional Balinese dance combined with the richness of folklore. This animation is also presented with stunning and colorful visuals that are able to capture the attention of the audience and are able to display Indonesian identity in a contemporary form.
Adhis admitted that the process of making this animation took 13 months starting from August 2024 to September 2025. The challenge faced during the creation of this work was the ability to manage time. In addition, Adhis felt challenged in creating more natural movement details in the animation.
“The production took approximately 13 months. We started in August and finished in mid-September. The biggest challenge was finding the right sleeping hours, as the time was quite tight, so we had to sacrifice a lot of sleep. There were also several detailed movements that had to be created so that it didn’t look stiff,” Adhis said, as quoted by Selamat Pagi Indonesia, Metro TV, Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Adhis uploaded the animation to his social media accounts. However, he did not expect his work to garner so many positive responses and appreciation from the audience.
“I uploaded it on two platforms, Instagram and TikTok. On Instagram, it’s because it’s my portfolio account, so I have an obligation to upload it there. But on TikTok, it just so happens to be a personal account. I didn’t have any serious intention of going viral or anything, it was just for fun, but it turns out the response from the audience was that massive,” said Adhis.
Thanks to his work, Adhis also received a Master’s Program (S2) scholarship offer from the Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid. “Yes, I did meet with Mrs. Meutya Hafid yesterday. There was a discussion about this animation and she offered me a Master’s Program. But to be sure, I’m still looking for a suitable and appropriate university,” said Adhis.
