AMIKOM & Chaoyang University Deepen Academic Ties

Education. Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta welcomed a delegation from Taiwan’s Chaoyang University of Technology (CYUT) and representatives from Chung Shan Medical University for a day of discussions aimed at strengthening international academic cooperation. The meeting, held on November 18 at Citra 1 Hall, brought together faculty, researchers and students to explore joint research, student exchange, and collaborative academic programs.

The CYUT delegation included senior academics from the Department of Information and Communication Engineering, while Chung Shan Medical University joined to present biomedical perspectives. From AMIKOM, Vice Rector IV Arief Setyanto, S.Si., M.T., Ph.D., together with deans and program heads, attended the session and greeted the visiting scholars.

In his opening remarks, Vice Rector Arief Setyanto emphasized AMIKOM’s commitment to expanding international partnerships that create broader opportunities for collaborative learning and research. AMIKOM faculty presented recent research outputs and laboratory capabilities, highlighting strong overlaps with CYUT’s research priorities.

Priority research areas identified during the meeting included:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) and communication systems
  • Biomedical informatics and interdisciplinary applications
  • Disaster mitigation technologies and applied innovations

Prof. Huang of CYUT expressed his university’s interest in developing a long-term partnership with AMIKOM, pointing to shared research directions and a mutual focus on innovation. Taiwanese delegates outlined how national funding mechanisms—such as support from Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC)—could support joint projects and create funded roles for students engaged in industry-linked research.

AMIKOM faculty signaled their readiness to follow up by sharing detailed inventories of lecturer expertise, active research topics and lab facilities to form the basis for collaborative proposals. Both institutions agreed on next steps: scheduling virtual follow-up meetings, exchanging academic documentation, and prioritizing research topics with the strongest mutual interest.

Delegates emphasized clear benefits for students, including international research experience, funded research assistantships and expanded career pathways through industry-linked projects. Faculty members highlighted opportunities for co-supervision of theses, joint publications and curriculum enrichment via exchange programs.

The meeting concluded on an optimistic note, with both parties committed to translating the dialogue into concrete programs: joint research teams, student mobility schemes and co-developed curricula that support science and technology development. AMIKOM and Chaoyang University will maintain close contact to formalize agreements and begin collaborative activities.
