Parenting. The newly launched book Filosofi Parenting Try Sutrisno captures the parenting principles of former Indonesian Vice President Try Sutrisno.
Released at The Ballroom Djakarta Theater XXI, the book highlights his role not only as a national figure but also as a father who shaped his family through discipline and moral example.
Compiled by Adhyaksa Dault with contributions from Luqman Hakim Arifin, Mujib Rahman, and Maria Dominique, the book presents Try Sutrisno’s values through relatable stories and daily experiences within his household. The authors aim to preserve a parenting legacy they believe remains relevant for Indonesian families today.
Four Pillars of Try Sutrisno’s Parenting
The book outlines four core principles that guided his approach to raising children:
- Islamic faith and spirituality
- Javanese cultural values
- Military-style discipline
- Strong nationalism and civic responsibility
These pillars were taught through consistent daily actions rather than lectures, demonstrating how character is shaped through example.
Lessons Passed Across Generations
Family representative Dr. Taufik Dwicahyono shared personal reflections on how small yet meaningful practices—such as modesty, honesty, responsibility, and perseverance—became lifelong lessons. He emphasized that these values continue to guide younger generations navigating modern challenges, including digital disruption and shifting social norms.
A Parenting Model for Modern Indonesia
With parents increasingly seeking guidance in a fast-changing world, the book offers a practical and culturally grounded framework. It blends tradition with hands-on advice, reinforcing how discipline, faith, and cultural heritage can support healthy child development.
